Replacing teeth with implants is a multiple-step process. First, a plan of treatment and options available must be discussed with the one of our dentists, who will be attaching teeth to the implants.
The implants are usually placed in one visit, and in some cases a temporary tooth or a denture can be inserted on the same day. In other cases, the implant is uncovered in 3-4 months, after integration to the bone, and then the teeth can be attached.
The options available for implant case design will depend on the amount and density of the jawbone present, the desired strength of the case, and the finances available to complete the case. For example, someone with no teeth might choose 6-8 implants for each arch with teeth attached permanently. This would be the best but the most costly. They may also choose to have 4-6 implants per arch and have removable dentures that snap in.
Here are some different reasons why you might need a Dental Implant:
Replacing Your Teeth
When you lose a tooth, the surrounding supporting bone will deteriorate, becoming thin and weak. This can affect the support of the adjacent teeth and the success of tooth replacement. Often it is necessary to bone graft the area to replace the bone. A dental implant is the only tooth replacement solution that can protect you from further bone loss by simulating the natural tooth.
Tooth extraction is quite common due to poor dental health and gum disease. Leaving the missing tooth space empty may not sound too serious, but the consequences of not filling in the space from the missing tooth can include:
In many situations, a dental implant is the most pleasingly esthetic solution for replacing the missing tooth. Sometimes a fixed bridge or a removable partial is an adequate solution, but a dental implant is the only method that doesn’t require overly stressing the other teeth. Fixed bridges require cutting down the adjacent teeth, and partials require clasps, which put an unnatural force on the teeth. An all-ceramic dental crown or dental bridge, secured to a dental implant, provides a complete and beautiful solution for improving your smile. A dental implant takes the place of the missing tooth’s root and helps prevent the above consequences.
Upgrading your dentures
Millions of people are missing most or all of their teeth. For these people, a denture replacement solution that eliminates the need for denture adhesives might mean a new level comfort and ease in their life. Many people struggle with this frustrating condition due to poor-fitting dentures, poor contour of their remaining ridges, or inadequate muscle control. Relining the denture bases can help if there is a gap present, and the patient can tolerate the denture length to go far back in the mouth where most of the retention is attained. Normally, to have the retention you would like and to have the strength of a normal bite, dental implants are indicated to snap the denture in place securely.
Nobel Biocare denture replacement alternatives use dental implants for support, thereby removing the need for the use of messy and unreliable denture adhesives. Denture replacement solutions can even make sore gums obsolete.
Nobel Biocare dental implants provide the foundation for our dental replacement alternatives. The use of dental implants can return the look and function that your current dentures and denture adhesives probably aren’t providing. Nobel Biocare has a forty-year history of success stories using dental implants and leads the dental implant market.
If you’re in need of denture repair, or if you’re simply tired of wearing your dentures, consider our denture replacement alternatives and leave your denture adhesives behind. Ask one of our dentists if you’re a candidate for Nobel Biocare dental implants.
It’s time to say goodbye to your denture adhesives.
Permanent Dentures on Implants
If you’re tired of your current dentures moving around in your mouth, and think denture adhesive is bothersome, our denture replacement solution may be right for you.
A fixed denture replacement solution consists of a dental implant bridge (sometimes called permanent dentures) that is supported by four or more dental implants. By using dental implants to secure the permanent dentures, the need for denture adhesive is a thing of the past. Because the dental implants function like the natural roots, the permanent dentures will feel very much like your natural teeth did.
If you’d like to rid yourself of denture adhesive and have permanent dentures, ask one of our dentists if you’re a candidate for Nobel Biocare dental implants and a dental implant bridge.
If your dentures are uncomfortable, and denture adhesive is bothersome, our removable denture solution may be the right one for you.
A removable denture is another form of a dental implant supported denture, but is removable for cleaning, similar to your current dentures. Unlike your current removable dentures, this dental implant supported denture is secured to dental implants, thereby eliminating the need for denture adhesives.
This removable denture is a complete dentures alternative that “snaps” on to only two dental implants. When in place, a dental implant supported denture will look and function very much as your natural teeth did.
If you like your removable dentures, but are looking for an alternative to denture adhesives, ask one of our dentist if you’re a candidate for Nobel Biocare dental implants and a dental implant supported denture.
